I admit it. I'm an urbanite wimp. I don't ski or snowboard and I rarely venture up to Tahoe in the winter time. But this year I decided to brave the snow, fresh mountain air and natural beauty of North Lake Tahoe to play SnowFest with the Space Cowboys at Squaw Valley USA.

Of course, I didn't leave the back deck at Squaw all weekend except to go to my room to refresh my drink, but baby steps, right?

This is my set as recorded live from Saturday afternoon on the UNIMOG at Squaw. It was an absolutely gorgeous day. Plenty of bright sunshine and temperatures in the 60s (not ideal for sking or boarding, I was told, but perfect for drinking and dancing!). As there is always a mixed crowd at SnowFest, including families with young children, I made sure to stay on the lighter side of house and breakbeat. I picked these tracks because they're fun, don't contain any profanity and even people who aren't big electronic music fans can appreciate them. Enjoy!

Track List
1. The Grooveymen (Grooveymain Mix) - Melchyor A
2. Vibe Alive - Joey Youngman, Chuck Love (among others)
3. Wanna Dance? (2011 Hot Mix) - Joshua Heath
4. Love Game - Shakedown

9. Coma Cat (Stanton Warriors Re-Bump) - Tensnake
10. Bootyful People - Defkline, Red Polo
11. Music's Gettin' Stronger - Soul of Man
12. Take it to the House - Cut & Run
13. Time is Up - Colombo

Rebel Sketchy joined the Ground Level family last year, with his part of the Disruptive Beats EP series and compilation. Since then he has become a solid member of the label's roster, releasing two further singles, remixing Joe C on our 44th release and DJing at Ground Level nights in Cambridge, Derby and London. Following a couple of these DJ appearances he locked himself away in the studio and out came this EP of two contemporary breaks bombs aimed squarely at the dancefloor.

Up & Down builds with funky chords and rolling beats, constantly using upwards moving melody lines to build anticipation, then it builds just a little more, and then drops to the mother of all rising basslines Funky enough to make the bootys shake but dirty enough to melt a few faces Up and Down delivers the goods.

I Need You is a swagger-happy delight, filled with uplifting chord progressions, quirky vocals and enough bass to fill an olympic sized pool. Once again this is designed for the dancefloor and will not disappoint!

“Really nice sound to I Need You, will be supporting” – Dustin Hulton
“Really liking the booty swing on I Need You” – Drumattic Twins
“Yeah man, some wicked breakbeat action, more please” – Scott Nixon
“Exactly what we like at the minute” – Leuce Rhythms
“Great Work” – Mr No Hands

Released by: groundlevel
Release/catalogue number: GL047
Release date: Mar 30, 2012

To help promote the release Rebel Sketchy has done an awesome re-edit of Rihanna which is available for free download.

Thought I’d share this ‘DJ tool’ with you all, in celebration of my brand new double-single out today on Ground Level. Pick it up from Beatport exclusively from around 12pm! The singles are called Up & Down / I Need You and my aim was to provide you with two flavours of dance-floor fodder, I really hope you enjoy listening as much as I did creating. If you want a preview before they hit Beatport check this link here – http://snd.sc/xvUYxE

All the best,

Dave

Something a little bit different from Ground Level on this release, as we venture into the 140 BPM area with our latest signing Sasha Khan who provides us two original vocal tracks. With his roots in the jungle and drum & bass scenes Sasha Khan approaches the breaks genre in a completely different way, and creates a harder edged dancefloor vibe.

Global Meltdown features the vocal talents of Rukus and builds from a reggae vibe through tough broken loops complete with sirens. Riding West originally started life as a dancehall track and features the vocals of MC Ninety, it has been transformed into a breakbeat monster with an old school rave feel.

As a bonus Sasha Khan teams up with DJ Cat to remix Beatsmack's Ruff Em Up, from last year's Disruptive Beats compilation, into a jump-up drum and bass monster!
